July 11, 2004. Hi Everyone, I was just flipping through the TV channels and could have swore that I saw my old Armwrestling buddy, Paul Belluz, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada on a commercial on the Discovery Channel for a show that was about to start called Science of Super Human Strength. The show showcased athletes from Bodybuilding, Strongman, Powerlifters, Olympic Weightlifters and one fellow doing amazing metal bending with his hands including spiking a nail through a board with his bare hands!! It also showed an old "Charles Atlas" ad that I remember falling for when I was about 10 years old!! It also had alot of commentating by my favorite California Governor! This show had some really interesting stuff for any strength fanatic and proved my own personal theory that the mind is one of the biggest links when it came to strength training and competing at most, if not all strength sports. I remember doing an interview with a local newspaper before going to the 1996 Canadian National Armwrestling Championships where I stated that I believed that success in the sport of Arm Wrestling and other strength sports was 75% mind and 25% body. Science of Super Human Strength showed all the science that now goes on behind the scenes at the top level of most sports and it is proven that the mind is a very powerful force. A little muscle never hurts either!
The Heavy Grip 500 just returned to Canada from Fitness Mania stores in Pennsylvania and it still hasn't been fully closed. For those that are new to Heavy Sports, We're having a competition where the first person to close the HG500 gets $500!! Bob Maul at Fitness Mania said that one of his customers came within an 1/8" of closing it. The only other person to come this close has been professional bodybuilder Gunter Schlierkamp back in March. Bob said that his customer regularly bends steel rods and frying pans and if he couldn't close it, then it can't be closed!!
Anyone interested in becoming a HeavySports athlete of the month. Click here. We're not looking for professional athletes, but just guys and gals who enjoy training and/or competing at any type of strength sport.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has given me well wishes for some health problems I've been suffering as of late. Nothing life-threatening, but I haven't been able to travel or lift any weights for over a year and am really missing the gym. The family and I sure appreciate everyone who has called or emailed to see how things are going! Thanks! Nothing else going on right now and summer is going to be gone before we know it (especially here in Canada!). If anyone has any results or articles that they want to send in, we appreciate the content and you can contact us here. Have a great summer!!
Bill Morrison (unfortunately, not the guy on the left...pro Bodybuilder Gunter Schlierkamp)
